今年の七夕は、めずらしく晴れ星空が見えた。

そして、今日は満月の夜だ。ここ数日、夜空を見上げる機会が多い。

月を見ていると、いつもジャズのスタンダードナンバー「Fly Me To The Moon」が頭の中で流れる。

この曲について、Wikipediaではこう書いてある。

”シナトラがこの曲を発表した1960年代、アメリカ合衆国はアポロ計画の真っ只中にあって、本当に『月に連れて行って貰える』のは、非常に近くまで迫っている、近未来の出来事であった。そのため『Fly Me to the Moon』は一種の時代のテーマソングのように扱われ、これがこの曲のヒットにつながった。”

でも、私はあまりそうは思わない。１９６０年代も、今だって、自分が月へ行くことを想像することは楽しいことだけれど、現実的には、きっと無理だと思う。

この曲の主人公もきっと同じ思いなんじゃないかと考えてしまう。

月へ行って、星々の中を駆け巡ることを想像することはとても楽しいことだけれど、きっと自分が体験することはないだろう。

月へ行くことと同じくらい、想像すると楽しいことだけれど、きっと叶えられないことだろう。

そんなペーソスがこの曲の魅力のひとつだと思う。
